Overview
The topic of fever in children is surrounded by widespread public misconception that fevers are dangerous, leading to overtreatment both at home and in hospital. However some fevers, especially of a non-infectious etiology, do require aggressive management. Our approach to children with fever is described in this document.
To review the comprehensive ACH Fever Management Guideline, please see the link to this guideline under the “Key Links” Tab. Under this tab, you can also find the link for the Provincial AHS Emergency Strategic Clinical Network Protocol for treating “Pain and/or Fever with Acetaminophen or Ibuprofen”; this link will bring you to the Insite page for this AHS protocol (an AHS login will be required at this time).
