Overview

Kawasaki disease is an acute vasculitis of childhood that leads to coronary artery aneurysms in approximately 25% of untreated cases. It has been reported worldwide and is the leading cause of acquired heart disease in children in developed countries. The best resources available are from the American Heart Association’s Update on Diagnosis and Management of Kawasaki Disease: A Scientific Statement (2024) and the American College of Rheumatology/Vasculitis Foundation Guideline for the Management of Kawasaki Disease (2021) (See Key Links)
